The Major League Soccer (MLS) is a male-only, American soccer league established in 1993. The game currently comprises 27 teams, 3 of them based in Canada. San Jose Clash Versus DC United on April 6, 1996
The exciting inaugural match had 31,000 fans watching live at Spartan Stadium, San Jose. The game marked the biggest day in the history of American Soccer. The 1-0 win against DC United in the 88th minute excited the San Jose Clash fans.
The First Championship Cup on October 20, 1996
The match held in Foxborough Stadium with 34,643 fans watching marked the end of the inaugural season for MLS games. The heavy downpour and cold weather did not stop the DC United 3-2 win against Los Angeles Galaxy.
After the Galaxy’s score of two goals by the second half, Tony Sanneh scored United’s first goal in the 73rd minute assisted by Marco Etcheverry. The second and third goals for DC United were in the 81st and 94th minutes.
The exciting 94th-minute headed goal scored by Eddie Pope earned him praise as a legendary defender.
MLS All-Stars Versus Chelsea on August 5, 2006
The match at Toyota Park in Bridgeview earned the MLS team international reputation as talented and competitive. Dwayne De Rosario’s goal saved the day. His goal against the giants in Football history proved that the MLS league could compete and win against European teams.
Los Angeles Galaxy Versus Real Salt Lake in the MLS Cup 2009
The match on November 22 at Qwest Field attended by 46,011 fans is one of the most exciting games ever. After a 1-1 draw, Real Salt Lake won the match in a penalty shootout. The 5-4 penalty shootout makes the match most exciting for Real Salt Lake since it was their first Championship game.
